Job SearchWhen you approach a company that does not have any job openings, they will think that you must be crazy approaching them since you’ll be denied from the start. But if there’s anything recession has taught every job hunter in the world, it’s persistence to get a job as soon as possible.
When you see a “no vacancy” sign or you don’t find any job opening in their official website, you don’t just sulk or look for another opportunity. There are still ways on how you can grab their attention and be hired.
Finding a job in a “no vacancy” world is possible through timing. A company that has more than 500 employees will not stay in the “no vacancy” state for a very long time. At any given moment, someone will be promoted, transferred, terminated or resigned.
If you provide your resume and cover letter even without vacancy, you’ll be the first to be considered for the position. When the company says that “no vacancy,” that just means the manpower they have right now is just enough for the operations but they will still considered applicants as long as they can prove their worth.
If you’re sticking to the traditional way of getting hired even though the company is hiring, your chances is getting hired is next to none. You need to be creative and equally aggressive in getting their attention so that you can be granted with an interview.
Some use very creative techniques such as sending a manager or a boss a small gift such as a mug, or golf club and then calling them as soon as the gift is received. The gift will get them curious and interest. It’s unique and sometimes shocking which could be even considered good since they will remember your gift for a long time. Just make sure that your gift will not offend anyone.
When you get the chance to talk to the upper management, don’t talk like you’re evaluating them. Talk as if you’re selling your good points so that they will realize your skills. Sometimes, your interviews go bland since we answer based on what we think about the company. Because there are no jobs out there, grab the opportunity and let your future employer think that you’re worth every second of the interview.
Never disregard the power of internet connectivity. Online information is the only venue your future employer could know more about you without asking. Updating your profile in professional websites such as Linked-in will give your employer an idea that you are indeed a professional and want to connect to a lot of important people as much as possible. You don’t even have to spend a lot of time updating your profile since they are already stored online.
Always be creative and aggressive in searching for a job. It’s the best way to be recognized and be hired in a world where no one is hiring.
