How to List Accomplishments in Your Resume

A resume is practically a list of the things that you have done before you apply for the particular type of job. It will also tell the screener who you are, your family background and what you could do for the company. For fresh graduates, their resumes are basically a list of things they have done in college and what they could actually do for the company.

Although there are no experience related to the industry, the screener could easily estimate the capacity of the individual based on their education and the way the present themselves during the interview.

A fresh graduate often has that idea that a resume is basically a description of the things they have done in the past. With that idea, they might end up listing the things they have done without any impact to the interviewer. They could tell the screener what they have done but a resume of descriptions will never tell what they could do for the company.

For example a fresh graduate could write in their resume that he or she have been a student body president and after that is the list of responsibilities expected from the leader. Although it is very impressive that the candidate actually became the leader, the candidate didn’t show anything that are particular to his or her character. Since he or she used to be a leader, the candidate should have shown exemplary leadership skills and have led the school into better heights.

Considering Accomplishments

If you are planning to write a very impressive resume, do not just list your job descriptions. Write everything that you have done which was worthwhile and had a significant effect in the community or for yourself. The challenge is often remembering the things that you have done that’s actually worth including.

So that you can properly identify the things that you need to include, research a little bit more about the company you want to work with. A well known company should have a mission statement or a philosophy that became the backbone of their work ethics.

Based on their mission statement, you should be able to write down the things that you have accomplished which could look good when they read it. It is a little bit tedious and highly personalized but if you want to be hired as soon as possible, you should have an extra effort in your resume so that you will be noticed faster.

Proof of Accomplishments

Fresh graduates often think twice before including their accomplishments since they have few options for accomplishments. Professionals need to make sure that everything written is correctly.  They must provide proper supporting proof for all the accomplishments by giving appropriate references.

If you can find a proof or a certification of your achievement, then you can include that in your resume. Never lie in your achievements since your employer will find it out and you’ll have a very hard time finding another job since you lied just to get the job.
