Getting Back on Track in Minutes

There are lot of small distractions in the office. Your chatty co-worker, you constant need to have hot coffee in your side or even your favorite gadget website will always have you doing anything else besides work.

These are just small distractions which could be put away in minutes but these small distractions cAN easily diminish your output. Oftentimes, you will end up doing anything else that your work gets stalled and you have not done anything yet in the day. Getting back on track could be a lot difficult and you might be terminated when you are not as productive as expected.

The “Later” Attitude

The reason you are always thinking of putting of work for another minute or two is your ability to cope up with lost time. Although this maybe a valid reason considering you know how to speed things up, your “later” attitude could slowly eat up minutes which could end up into hours or even days.

For example, we are visiting a great website even though you are on a rush. You tend to put off work for later since you can make up for lost time. Avoid that attitude since you will end up with almost nothing because of that attitude. Even if you know how to cope up with lost time, the quality of work is never the same.

Techniques to Refocus at Work

Here are some small techniques to slowly refocus your mind at work:

• Clean your desk

This is a very small task you could do which is very efficient in getting you back on track. All you need to do is stand up and start organizing all the clutters in your workspace. You may not be doing anything productive but you need to clear things up not only in your desk but also in your mind. That is why it is recommended to clean your desk before you start working for the day and at the end of your work shift.

• Listening to Music

Most employers today allow their employees to listen to music as long they will never disturb other employees who prefer silence. The easiest way is probably to listen to your favorite music but that is not really a great idea especially when your music preference is rock music.

If you really like rock music that you will not listen to anything else, get the smoothest sound your favorite band could get. If you are open to different music genres, listen to cool sounds that could be your background while you work.

• Concentration Technique

Here is a very simple concentration technique to get you back at work: Stop whatever you are doing and then focus on a certain object by looking at it without doing anything else for at least five to ten seconds. Immediately close your eyes and do deep breathing for five seconds. When you open your eyes, you are more than ready to get back to work.

Avoid the small distractions through these simple techniques. Small distractions will easily divert your attention to being totally unproductive which is never good for your career.
