Significance of Social Networking

Networking is all about increasing the opportunities, that it has become imperative for new graduates in their search for a ideal job.

The Good Side of Social Networking

The great thing about networking is the insider secrets. Not only you’ll be vouched by someone you know from the company you are trying to work for but you are also getting insider secrets on the available jobs that are not advertised.

By acquiring this data, you should be able to get a good job fast as the number of candidates for this position is small.

Another advantage of networking in getting a good job is the availability of a back-up plan. Having a good job with great pay may not be there forever as there are external factors that could destroy the company. With a good network, you are able to find another job fast since there is an available job for you anytime.

The Bad Side of Social Networking

The not so good side of networking is on being overwhelmed by networking that you are not able to do anything else except to maintain your status in the social network.

The increasing number of contacts in your network could be a good thing but keeping up with the updates and letting them know who you are could be a difficult task. People would often have to content with a small number of contacts but it’s difficult to improve your choices when you have less contacts.

In relation to being overwhelmed, the reward of networking may not be always there. You may know a lot of people and have been keeping up with them so that you will have a good job in case you need it but when the time comes that you need a job, they might not be able to offer anything.

You are again left on your own to find a job and just ask their recommendation as assistance. That recommendation may not even be recognized by companies especially when you are trying to work for companies in a different industry.

The Ugly Side of Social Networking

Networking is a process of being associated with other people. You may perceive your contact in your list as someone good and will help you find a good job but they may be the sole reason you can’t find a job.

They may already have a bad reputation in the industry that you are not aware of. Because of that association, you are unable to land even an interview. People will always have different opinions of other people and you might be with someone who already has a bad reputation.

The worst part of networking is when you spend some money just to improve your contacts. There are companies who specialize in networking so that they could introduce you to important people in the industry. But being associated with these people will not ensure of a good job, even if you have to pay to meet them. In the end, getting a good job is still based on your resume, cover letter and your interview skills.
