Solo Professional

Everyone knows the effects of recession are not only for large scale businesses around the world. Recession has virtually affected everyone even those who are not actively seeking employment. Fresh graduates would not be able to find a good job that offers a stable career in the future.

Those lucky enough to be retained in their position even with a relatively stable career would have to face salary cuts. Budget cuts are aggressively being implemented by companies nowadays so that they could ride the effects of recession and still be in existence when recession is over.

But even though companies have a long term plan, the short term effects on those who are seeking employment is nothing short of devastating. Since they are not able to land a job right now, their financial responsibilities will not be met. Without a job, they are just digging their financial problems to a deeper level.

On the other hand, company or small business based jobs are not the only way out of the financial mess brought by recession. There is a relatively unknown career wherein you become a solo professional.

Basically, a career as a solo professional is almost the same as a freelancer. However, a freelancer is only geared towards a single skill such as photography, writing, editing and even software development. A solo professional on the other hand is basically a person that could work at home but contracted by a small to large scale business for different tasks. You’re basically a freelance office worker but without a boss.

Advantages of a Solo Professional

The biggest advantage a solo professional could enjoy is the fact that no boss will be dictating your movements. A solo professional is based at home doing different tasks asked by companies from different parts of the country around the world. Take note that your client will not only be based in one country. Since you do your task online, you can virtually work anytime and anywhere for anyone – as long as the contracted pay is reasonable.

Of course, you can also approach small businesses in your area for a freelance assignment. By going local you can be assure that the client is there and the expected salary would arrive on time.

Disadvantages of a Solo Professional

Unfortunately, a life of solo professional could have a lot of challenges. Among them is when your client will not follow on the agreed terms and conditions. This is very disheartening since everyone should be done online. Although you can run after those who will not pay the contracted rate, the effort is not worth it because it will require a lot of time and effort on your end.

A Solo Professional During Recession

A solo professional can easily address the problems brought by recession. In fact, a solo professional is the individual needed by companies who want to save on salary. Instead of paying for an hourly rate, a business could just contract work with a solo professional and provide a one-time fee for the assignment.
